Abstract:

Twenty five years ago, the introduction of SOAP 0.9 by Microsoft ushered in a new era of service-oriented computing. But the question remains: has this concept lived up to its initial potential?

Building software solutions reliably and predictably remains a significant hurdle for most organizations. Software projects are known to be frequently late, over budget, and riddled with bugs. This challenge is further amplified by the inherent complexity of modern systems, both vertically (intricate systems) and horizontally (interconnected systems).

This talk delves into the role that service-oriented computing has played and can still play in maturing enterprise software engineering as a discipline.
